Capilano University

Capilano University is a teaching-focused university offering a wide range of programs and services that enable students to succeed in their current studies, in their ongoing education, in their chosen careers, in their lifelong pursuit of knowledge, and in their contribution as responsible citizens in a rapidly changing and diverse global community.

We offer a complete range of preparatory courses, arts and sciences courses, business and professional studies, global and community studies, fine and applied arts programs, and education/health/human development programs. Credentials awarded include graduate diplomas and certificates, post-baccalaureate diplomas and certificates, bachelor degrees, associate degrees, diplomas, certificates, and statements of completion.

  • Transfer Credits

Transfer credit is credit given for work successfully completed at another institution. The transfer credits reduce the total number of credits required to complete a certificate, diploma, associate degree or degree. Approved transfer credit is noted on the student’s Official Transcript of Academic Record. While grades are noted on the student record system, they are not included in the calculation of the GPA, nor are they printed on an official Capilano University transcript.

  • Admission Requirement

Students who have successfully completed 12 or more credits in an academic program at a recognized college or university will be granted admission to the Arts and Sciences program based on the work completed.

Transfer students will be assigned their registration priority (Registration Time Ticket) based on their most recent term GPA from the transfer institution.

  • Courses not Listed in the BC Transfer Guide

If your courses are not listed as transferable in the BC Transfer Guide, we can still evaluate them.

For each course you want us to review you’ll need to submit:

      1. A detailed course outline.

A detailed course outline is sometimes called a syllabus or an itinerary. A detailed course outline is not the same as a course description that can be found in an academic calendar, since course descriptions do not include enough information. Make sure the outline is for the year and term you took the course. Only outlines in English are accepted. If your course outline is in another language you need to have it translated by a certified translator before you send it to us. The course outline you send us must include:

      • a course objectives statement
      • a detailed outline of the course units
      • the course length (in weeks, excluding the final exam period)
      • the number of lecture hours per week (including laboratory/tutorial/seminar/studio work)
      • the number of required hours per week spent in open laboratory work or open studio work
      • the evaluation and grading method
      • a list of the textbooks used
      • the course credit amount
    1. A completed Request for Transfer Credit Form (pdf)

Follow the same process if you have completed coursework that has not been assigned transfer credit at the time of admission.

  • How to Arrange Transfer Credits

Your transfer credit will be assessed by an admissions officer when you’re admitted to CapU, if your courses are listed in the BC Transfer Guide.

We’ll confirm your transfer credit by sending an email to your myCapU Email account.

Once the email arrives, book an appointment with an academic advisor by calling the Registrar’s Office at 604 984 4900.

At your appointment the advisor will help you fill out a program planner, taking into account your transfer credits.

  • Credit Evaluation Time

The evaluation takes 6–8 weeks and may take longer between June and August.
