  • Requesting Transfer Credit

KPU applicants/students can request transfer credit in two ways:

    1. KPU Applicant (new/returning students)

When you are submitting an application for admission to KPU, remember to check the box indicating that you would like your transfer credit assessed when you are filling out the online application for admission (see screenshot below).

There is no additional fee for a transfer credit assessment at the time of admission, aside from the normal application fee. Click to view document submission requirements and deadlines for applicants.

If you have already submitted your application, but forgot to check the box, please submit a Request for Transfer Credit form.

    2. Current KPU Students

Current KPU students can request a transfer credit assessment any time before the completion of 30 credits of coursework at KPU by submitting a Request for Transfer Credit form, along with official transcripts, documentation and associated fees shown below:

    Courses taken within B.C.

    • No document evaluation fee

Courses taken outside B.C. but within Canada

    • Non-refundable document evaluation fee – $25

    Courses taken outside Canada

    • Non-refundable document evaluation fee – $50

For current students, in order to ensure requests can be assessed prior to registration, requests and all supporting documentation should be submitted as follows:

    Term Deadline
    Fall April 1
    Spring September 15
    Summer January 15

Requests and official transcripts/documents submitted after these deadlines will be processed as quickly as possible, on a first-come, first-served basis.

    Official Transcripts

An official transcript must be forwarded in a sealed envelope directly from the issuing institution to KPU, or via electronic transcript exchange service where applicable.  Many institutions are able to provide English translations of transcripts in addition to transcripts in the official language of the home country. If this is not possible, please note that BC Certified Translations may be required.  Refer to the Official Transcripts information in the Admissions Guide.

    Course Outlines

Some courses have not been previously evaluated by our faculty and will either indicate unassigned credit or no equivalent in your Transfer Credit Evaluation Summary. You may request to have these courses evaluated by submitting course outlines to admissions@kpu.ca. Course outlines must include the following information: Comprehensive description of material covered, number of hours of instruction per week, length of semester, texts used and grading profile for each course. The outlines must also be from the year and/ or semester in which the courses were taken and must be supplied by the institution. Please note that calendar descriptions are not sufficient for evaluation.

  • Letters of Permission

A Letter of Permission may be requested by KPU students who wish to take courses at another post-secondary institution to transfer back to their program at KPU.

In order to be eligible to take courses at another institution with a Letter of Permission, a student must be in good academic standing at KPU, have a minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.0, have completed nine semester credit hours of study at KPU, and have no outstanding fees on their student account.

Approval will be granted on the understanding that:

    1. The student must obtain a grade of D (50% or 1.00) or better in each course in order to receive credit at KPU. Note: courses graded C- or less cannot be used as prerequisites or credit for certain programs.
    2. An official transcript from the institution designated must be mailed to KPU Admissions upon completion of the courses.
    3. If a change in course(s) other than those approved is required, the onus is on the student to submit a new Letter of Permission request.
    4. Grades earned at other institutions will not be calculated in the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Institutional grade point average.
    5. The onus is on the student to determine how each course fits into their program. For assistance with course / program planning, please contact an Academic Advisor. Appointments may be made online at Advisor Connect.

Letter of Permission request forms can be found at kpu.ca/ses/forms. Once completed, they can be submitted to Student Enrolment Services on any campus, or by email to admissions@kpu.ca.

  • Transfer from Kwantlen

KPU endeavours to provide complete and accurate information to students who plan to transfer to other institutions.
